Hi everyone, hope this email finds you well and ready for spring.

It has been an unusual winter for us in the west with very little snow and only now getting any kind of cold weather. My thoughts do go out to all of you who may have been impacted with all of the fires in the west coast. It appears that fire is something that we are all going to have to deal with, as we too experienced a forest fire close to the lodge last year.

On a brighter note, with trapping finished for the season my thoughts are turning to the lodge and another great summer. Going over all the lists that we made before leaving and trying to remember what didn’t make the lists. It never fails that there is always something that you forgot until you get back and then its not just that easy to go and get it.

No one else or miles.

What a beautiful day.

From the reports that I have got from the trapper that goes by the lodge, there hasn’t been a lot of snow so far and not a lot of real cold weather, only a couple of days of -40. I know that sounds pretty cold but for those up there its almost t-shirt weather . There’s no real cold weather in the long forecast and they are up to 9 hours of day light now and gaining 6 minutes a day. Only a little over an hour difference between the lodge and where I live in Kamloops BC.

It won’t be long now that I will have to start the plants growing for the green houses to give them a head start. Always a big hit with the guests and everything always tastes so much better when you can just go and pick it right out of the garden. We had lots of blue berries and cloud berriers last year and when I talked nicely to Nancy, the lady doing the cooking I even got some fresh made pies, muffins and jam. With the forest fire last year we should be able to get some morel mushrooms, will have to see what she can do with them. Then there is always the wildlife viewing, never know what you are going to see and then the great shore lunches, nothing tastes better than fish right out of the water. I can’t believe how far away some people come for our shore lunches, all over the world .

Almost ready.

What's this party all about.

With the US elections over with, more bookings are coming in, with June almost sold out for the flyfishing and 24 hours of day light. Its funny how that has occupied so much of the people’s time and they forgot about what is really important, time spent with family and friends.

Can’t a guy eat in peace.

That expression says everything.

I’m only going to be doing a couple of outdoor shows and fund raisers this year for Ducks Unlimited and Wildsheep. It will be nice to be home for the spring but then I get to thinking it was always nice to see everybody, the other exhibitors and new consumer products, some of which I seem to always get sucked into buying.

For anyone looking to book a fishing trip this year there is limited space in June for the flyfishing and then spots in July and August. July and August is when we usually catch the bigger ones and then after the middle of August you have a good chance of seeing the northern lights and all the fall colors. Don’t wait to long or you could miss out on spot you were looking for.

Nice one.

I think mines bigger

Until next time, enjoy what is left of winter and spring is just around the corner with more thoughts to our summer activities (fishing  and take a kid fishing, it could be the best part of your summer.

Thanks from Brian and the staff at Kluane Wilderness lodge.
